This article discusses the aspects of human rights education in schools through the variables of rights. To this end, elementary school social studies textbooks and curricula were reviewed based on the rights variables. Depending on how each of the four variables of rights (contents of rights, subjects of rights, fulfillment of obligations, and grounds for justification) are filled in, various rights are created, which is also an important aspect in terms of human rights education. This is because the purpose, direction, and contents of human rights education differ depending on how the range of variables of rights are set in human rights education. To conclude the article, several points were presented. First, the social consensus on the contents of those treated in a socially-underprivileged manner in human rights education was emphasized in terms of rights content and rights subject. Second, in terms of fulfillment of obligations, the performance of obligations under public law and the performance of obligations under private law are distinguished. In addition, it emphasized the understanding of media as a new duty fulfillment following the advent of digital society. Third, in terms of justifying rights, the necessity of human rights education based on free thinking beyond legal rights education was emphasized.
